"A political witch hunt against amongst others Catholic and Protestant revival movements has recently begun in Belgium. A few days ago a critical parliamentary report was presented in Brussels, where the country's free (non-conformist) churches, such a Pentecostals and the majority of evangelical free church communities, were branded as sects.

"Amongst the 189 'sects' the report covers, the influential and sect-like Freemasonry Lodges in Belgium are noted by their absence. The churches and confessions which are named have been deemed dangerous in the report, and should be put under surveillance.

"Yesterday the Swedish edition of 'Dagen' was able to report that Belgium's parliament shortened the controversial 'sect list' after strong protests from, amongst others, the Catholic Church and Christian Democrats.

"In any case, large sections of the report were approved by a large majority, including the demand that a new administrative body be established to keep a close watch over 'dangerous' sects in Belgium"

Reports like this should give the Christian community considerable cause for alarm because they portend more overt attacks against the Gospel. Such can only be viewed as a prelude of a concerted attempt to erradicate Christianity's influence by its liberal, Darwinian enemies.

The one positive effect of this attempt to legislate against the Gospel in Belgium parliament is that it has united various Christian confessions and awakened them to the threat at their door. A similar report in France had a similar effect, awakening many Christians from their slumber. Hopefully increasing numbers of Christians will begin realise that accommodation with the state, which caused the politicisation of Christianity and its spiritual demise under the nominally Christian pagan Roman Emperor Constantine, is not in their interests at all.

New Covenant Christians have long maintained the need for a complete divorce between Christianity and the State in order (for example, in the case of the Lutheran Church in Norway or the Anglican Church in England) to prevent the subversion and politicisation of the Gospel message. We have maintained all along that politics and Christianity are incompatible bed-fellows and, whilst we disagree with sects like the Jehovah's Witnesses on most of their teachings, we must at least credit them with getting this one point basically right.

There are many Christians now who increasingly believe that the Antichrist Age is manifeting itself even more overtly and that in the so-called 'free West' we are going to see the freedom of religion increasingly encroached upon by secularists and New Agers in positions of power.
