Obedience & Covenant Renewal
The Message of Shavu'ot (Weeks/Ekatost/'Pentecost')
"When Moses went and told the people all Yahweh's words and torot (laws), they responded with one voice, 'Everything Yahweh has said we will do.' Moses then wrote down everything Yahweh had said" (Ex.24:3-4, NIV).
This is the covenant we renew in the summer each year at Shavu'ot (Pentecost) because that's what the moed (appointment, festival) is for... and because we forget the commandments so easily:
The men are commanded to wear tzitzit (tassels) to remind them of this and the women head coverings, lest we forget...because we DO.
Obedience is one of those things we start learning as young children. We're (hopefully) taught early about respecting our parents and other legitimate authority figures.
We've heard all the bible verses on the importance of obedience.
So, it seems we should have it mastered by the time we're grown right?! Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not quite there yet.
Following Yahweh isn't always easy but it's absolutely necessary, especially when He seems to be leading me in the opposite direction of where I want to go. Or asks me to make an impossible decision.
Grace (undeserved loving kindness, unmerited favour) does not substitute for obedience! They are divine twins. Embrace both. The former is a free gift of Heaven (which we are to both receive at salvation and give freely to others after salvation), the latter is an obligation for which we will be judged on the last Day. Make no mistake about that.
"Make me walk along the path of your mitzvot (commandments), for that is where my happiness (delight) is found" (Psalms 119:35).
But I know that learning how to hear and obey Father Yahweh leads to blessing and victory. I choose to trust Him with my future and the present journey I have to walk to get there.
And you can too.
